IDC Governments

Technology research and consulting firm IDC Governments announced the winners of the company’s Smart Cities North America Awards.

The awards recognise cities in North America for implementing smart city projects and for sharing best practices to accelerate adoption of smart technologies across the region.

This year’s awards recognised cities for leading in urban innovation through:

  • Implementing cloud, analytics, IoT, mobile solutions technologies
  • Use of data
  • Adopting unique partnerships and funding models
  • Community involvement

The 2018 winners include:

  • Arlington, Texas for administration
  • Kansas City, MO for civic engagement
  • Miami-Dade County for smart buildings
  • Virginia Beach, VA for smart water
  • Spokane, Washington and San Diego, California for sustainable infrastructure
  • Detroit was recognised for transportation infrastructure

This year’s awards generated nearly 3,000 votes across 14 smart city categories.
