Algoma Orchards

EnerNoc, an energy management subsidiary of Enel, has signed an energy storage deal which will enable participation in a statewide demand response programme in Ontario, Canada.

Algoma Orchards, an apple grower, processor and retailer, has selected Enernoc for the installation and operation of a 1MWh lithium-ion behind the meter energy storage system.

EnerNoc will also provide Enel's DEN.OS energy intelligence software for real time operation of the battery storage system.

The energy intelligence software will enable participation of the storage system in a demand-side management initiative operated by the Ontario’s Independent Electricity System Operator (IESO).

The construction of the energy storage plant is set to begin before the end of second half of 2018. EnerNoc will operate the system and have it participate in IESO's demand response programme over a period of 11 years.

The project will help Algoma Orchards to reduce energy costs by avoiding heavy energy use during peak periods when costs are high. The system will also enable Algoma Orchards to generate extra revenue by selling its electricity generated onsite to IESO during peak periods.
