smart city

A study conducted by Navigant Research finds that they are currently 355 smart city projects which are being implemented in 221 cities across the globe.

According to the study, the smart city market is moving to a period of increasing maturity as more cities embrace innovation to improve city services, operations and sustainability.

The majority of cities included in the report recognise smart street lighting as a first step toward the development of a smart city.

In addition, smart parking systems, mobility solutions, air quality monitoring, and smart waste are also becoming common deployments.

Ryan Citron, senior research analyst with Navigant Research, said: “Cities are developing more innovative smart city programmes and deploying proven solutions at commercial scale. Projects that integrate data and insights across multiple operations and service sectors are also becoming more common.

“These developments are happening in all major world regions, with recent surges of interest in North America and Australia, further acceleration of the Indian smart cities programme, and continued development across Europe, Asia Pacific, Latin America, and the Middle East & Africa.”

The report tracks deployment of smart technologies in the smart energy, smart water, smart transportation, smart buildings and smart government sectors in the first quarter of 2018.
