ESB Networks

Irish utility ESB Networks has received two awards for improving its customer services and operations through smart grid adoption.

The energy provider to 2.3 million customers has been awarded by Oracle and the Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI).

From Oracle, ESB Networks received the Leadership in Infrastructure Transformation award for successful rollout of a network management system. The technology replaced the utility’s Operations Management System deployed in 2007.

The new system enables ESB Networks to integrate GIS and SCADA operations to come up with a scalable and resilient outage management system. This provides the utility and its customers access to real-time grid data including faults within the energy distribution system.

ESB Networks were presented the EPRI PDU Technology Transfer Award for Leadership in Integration. The award recognises ESB Networks as a leading utility in applying data management to maximise renewable integration and electrification.

Marguerite Sayers, Managing Director of ESB Networks said: “We are very proud of these two awards and of the teams that earned them. It is a great honour to be recognised by industry peers, at the highest level internationally, as leading the way on network and data innovation.

"We have a long tradition of putting customers at the centre of everything we do, and we are continuing that tradition through to the digital era.  Through developing our technology, we aim to deliver increased reliability and services for our customers, including meeting the demand to connect greatly increased numbers of electric vehicles, electric heating schemes, storage and renewable energy in a cost-effective way.”
