Interview with Martin Speiermann, VP Sales and Marketing, PowerSense, gold sponsors at this year’s Transmission & Distribution/Smart Grids Europe.

What is on the calendar for the next year for PowerSense?

We are working on strengthening our product offerings. PowerSense is introducing a number of new MV and LV sensor products and have increased a number of functionalities to our existing products.

What current projects are you most excited about?

PowerSense is involved in some very interesting projects on how to handle solar power on the power grids. The findings are interesting and will change the way power grids are managed in the future. We are also involved in some EV projects that from a technical perspective are really interesting.

What are your most proud of in terms of PowerSense’s recent achievements?

We are proud of being able to continue as markets leaders and that we keep developing innovative solutions that utilities can use and benefit from.

What makes PowerSense successful?

PowerSense has a strong team of dedicated people. The whole team focuses on customers’ needs and engaging with our customers to find the right solution, both from a technical perspective and from an economic perspective.

What do you think are the main challenges currently in the industry?

The main challenge in the next years will be to prepare in time for the challenges of distributed power generation and ageing infrastructure. Both the design of the solutions but also implementation will take 5 – 10 years.

What surprises you about the industry?

We are glad to see so many new ideas and new solutions coming up in the business. It is important that everybody is contributing to what the next generation power grid should look like.

What will be your message at Transmission & Distribution/Smart Grids Europe this year?

Focus on designing the right solution the first time. Focus on re-using as much infrastructure as possible. Think about what is really needed and when is enough, enough.
