nPower customers receive one bill for gas and electricity

npower is one of the UK’s largest retail energy companies, pursuing an aggressive vertical integration strategy that focuses on commercial, industrial and residential retail markets. In March 2000 npower and SPL WorldGroup began a three-month proof of concept project for its dual-billing functionality. The trial was successful, and after an aggressive six-month timetable for implementation, npower was able to provide its new gas and electricity customers with a single bill for both products.

The ultimate aim is to provide all customers with a single bill and, at a later stage, to include telephone charges as well. Subsequent phases of the project have allowed npower to bring 500,000 small and medium-sized enterprises on board, while the company’s current 7 million retail customers have migrated to the new product.
