US utility Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E) has introduced a campaign which will benefit customers, charities, the environment – and the utility. Its “Save a Stamp – Help a Cause” campaign asks customers to sign up to view and pay their  utility bills online. In return PG&E will donate a total of $30,000 to five non-profit
organisations.

Every customer who signs up for online billing can choose one non-profit company from the list to receive a contribution from PG&E, and the organisation that gets the most votes will receive the largest allocation of the $30,000 contribution.

The utility points out that customers save money and time each month by enrolling in e-Bills, its online bill payment feature that allows customers to schedule one-time or automatic payments, to view, print and save monthly statements, to view their energy usage and payment history, and to analyse usage. The environment will benefit thanks to paperless billing, and the utility will also save the costs of printing and postage.
