Direction issued for continued deployment of smart metering in Australia
[img:scer_0.jpg| ]Canberra, Australia --- (METERING.COM) --- June 11, 2012 - Australia’s state and territory energy and resources ministers last week issued a directions statement setting the direction for the continued deployment of smart metering in locations where it is justified.

The ministers, meeting as the Standing Council on Energy and Resources (SCER), said they consider that smart meters, related technology and the products and services they support will be an important part of the transformation of the energy sector over the coming decade.

Smart energy market worth $222.35 billion in 2011

According to Pike Research the emerging smart energy paradigm covers multiple energy sources, storage mediums, and conversion devices with one thing in common: the ability to be deployed in a modular, distributed, and scalable fashion. Thus smart energy is defined as “the range of efficient technological options available to providing electricity in a distributed fashion, either for local use or for grid support.”
