Projects are evaluated by experts from the EEGI and GRID+ project teams.

To date four projects have been awarded EEGI Core status – Twenties, Grid4EU, InovGrid, and EcoGrid EU.

This is the case in five of the nine countries reviewed – Austria, Belgium, Great Britain, Spain (for gas), and the Netherlands.

Five smart grid projects have been awarded a total of £45.5 million in the third round of funding from Ofgem’s Low Carbon Networks Fund.

The five projects are:

• Electricity North West, for the CLASS (Customer Load Active System Services) project to investigate how reducing voltage on the distribution network can reduce peak demand and support the wider electricity system (£7.2 million)

Implementation of the Energy Efficiency Directive (EED) is going to create large-scale logistical and financial challenges for municipalities. In spite of this, many have pledged already to go beyond the required 3% annual floor-space renovation targets stipulated by the EED.

With gradual lifting of capped tariffs and electricity prices on the rise, energy efficiency, which until recently was of little interest to most Russians, is becoming the key driver for consumer engagement.
