Aneel, the Brazilian electricity agency, announced the minimum specifications for electricity metering systems in low voltage consumer units in early August 2012. Utilities, meter manufacturers and the metrology institute, Inmetro, have been given 18 months to start replacing current meters and begin offering a time-based tariff, known as the "white tariff."


EVs, heat pumps and μ-CHP key for future demand side management

NIST seeks partner to work on smart grid standards

Ireland’s smart meter rollout set to enter design stage

This has included the agreement of the program initiation documentation incorporating the program organization, governance and approach, and the development of the associated detailed planning.


Johannesburg smart meter contract for Itron

The engagement will require Itron to supply its latest generation smart meters and associated smart metering system to City Power, tying into the City of Johannesburg’s stated growth and development strategy to improve service delivery and efficiency through network automation.


IEEE forms smart grid technical advisory group and updates 802 standards

]Piscataway, NJ, U.S.A. --- (METERING.COM) --- December 18, 2012 - IEEE has announced the formation of the IEEE 802.24 Smart Grid Technical Advisory Group (TAG), along with updates to four standards in the IEEE 802 family and a new standards development project.

The new TAG is intended as a collaborative umbrella organization for the multiple IEEE 802 working groups (WGs) and will liaise with key smart grid ecosystem stakeholders, such as regulatory agencies, other standards development bodies and industry organizations.


Smart meter pilot to be launched in Cemig’s 'City of the Future'

Cemig is the country’s largest power company, serving over 7 million customers in 774 municipalities. Echelon is providing smart metering sub-systems to ELO, leveraging its Energy Control Networking Platform.


German government’s eTelligence smart grid project wraps up

The project, one of six in the E-Energy initiative and the first to be completed, was undertaken in the Cuxhaven region in northern Germany.

Britain’s smart meter consumer engagement, privacy and security rules set out

]London, England --- (METERING.COM) --- December 13, 2012 - Britain’s government has reached what it describes as another milestone in the nation’s smart meter rollout with the publication of the rules for consumer engagement, privacy, and security.

Among the key conclusions of the consumer engagement strategy review are that a new Central Delivery Body (CBD) will be established by the larger suppliers by June 2013, to provide a program of centralized engagement to build consumer confidence in the installation of smart meters and to contribute to the realization of the consumer benefits, particularly related to reducing energy consumption.
