DTE Energy’s Bill Cloutier to address the relationship linking the MDMS and AMI at Smart Metering MidwestBill Cloutier is currently the manager on the advanced metering infrastructure (AMI) project at DTE Energy. His responsibilities include leading all technical aspects of the AMI and Meter Data Management (MDM) projects, which are currently in the technology selection phase.
Cloutier has 25 years of broad-based electric utility experience with DTE Energy. He has held several engineering and leadership positions in customer service, information technology, distribution engineering and nuclear generation. He has also managed several key business projects in electric deregulation, billing/metering information systems, distribution reliability improvement and substation design. David Collie to present on smart metering advancements in OntarioDavid Collie joined the Burlington Hydro group of companies as president and CEO in 2001. He brings to the role a wealth of related industry experience gained in both the private and public sector. His distribution utility management expertise encompasses the full spectrum of electricity, water and natural gas systems.
Collie has been a lead player in the restructuring of the electricity industry in Ontario. In addition to being a prominent public speaker on energy topics, he has been a direct participant in a conservation projects ranging from municipal cogeneration, water conservation and energy demand management. He is also the immediate past Chair of the Electricity Distributors Association of Ontario and a board member of the Electrical Safety Authority. Jack Carr from AEP joins the program for Smart Metering Midwest 2008American Electric Power (AEP) is evaluating AMS for deployment initially within their largest urban areas and has performed a detail analysis for Columbus, Ohio. Urban areas are of initial interest for a variety of reasons, the chief one being the most obvious: Is it more cost effective to deploy a fixed network system (AMS) in more densely populated areas on a per-customer basis? Steven Pullins from Modern Grid Initiative to present at Smart Metering Midwest 2008The Modern Grid Initiative is creating a shared national vision of a modern grid’s principal characteristics and key technology areas. It is analyzing performance and technology gaps, developing a national concept of the modern grid, encouraging industry consensus and coordinating regional technology integration projects.
The Initiative complements the Office of Energy’s mission, as well as industry efforts led by EPRI’s Intelligrid, the Galvin Electricity Initiative, the GridWise Architecture Council, GridApps Consortium and others that have focused on raising national awareness about the need to radically improve grid performance, reliability and security. Smart Metering Midwest 2008: Mark your calendar! After the string of successful regional events, Metering International magazine will be bringing smart metering to the Midwest!
Utilities in the Midwest region are facing a multitude of regulatory barriers and operational challenges in becoming more energy efficient and environmentally passive. A significant step towards reducing this ecological impact is the ability to control energy consumption, the capacity to measure customer usage patterns with the aid of smart metering technology.
