9th annual Metering, Billing/CIS America achieves record attendance
[Ed Finamore][May 12, 2008]Perhaps it was the smart looking sailors and their dates attending the Submarine Ball when I arrived on Saturday night, but a special atmosphere seemed to accompany the official launch of the 9th annual Metering, Billing/CIS America conference and exhibition in San Diego. As Saturday night turned to Sunday, it was clear that the Navy and Metering International had both decided on an outstanding choice of venue, making the San Diego Sheraton Hotel and Marina the perfect location for this year’s conference on metering, billing and customer management.

Focus on the customer
San Diego, CA, U.S.A. --- (METERING.COM) --- April 22, 2008  - Smart meters can be expected to transform the customer experience, but customers must see their value, or the boat will have been missed stated Debra Reed, president and CEO of San Diego Gas & Electric (SDG&E) and Southern California Gas Company, in the opening keynote at Metering, Billing/CIS America 2008.
AMI star wars
San Diego, CA, U.S.A. --- (METERING.COM) --- April 21, 2008  - Data privacy and security are inherent features of advanced metering infrastructure (AMI) systems, because of the nature and volume of the information they collect, delegates attending the AMI Star Wars pre-conference workshop ahead of Metering, Billing/CIS America 2008 event heard.

Metering the smart grid for the smart customer

The event will bring together an expected 600 key decision-makers from the North American utility industry for a host of activities including workshops, conferences, training, lectures, networking and a trade show. This unique platform will provide strategic insights on the technologies and trends allowing utilities to METER THE SMART GRID FOR THE SMART CUSTOMER.

"Metering, Billing/CIS America is a solutions-oriented event,” says Jonathan Spencer Jones, editor of Metering International magazine. “It is intentionally interdisciplinary, so as to foster systems thinking, unique networking opportunities and solutions for utility executives to gather in a focused and integrated forum.”

The multi-track program enables attendees to match their information and learning needs with sessions dedicated to:

“Smart” sessions at Metering America

Participate in one of the many Smart sessions at Metering, Billing/CIS America, at which a key issue will be placed under the spotlight for detailed analysis and interactive discussion.

A chosen selection of high profile professionals from an array of utilities, vendors, consultants and other authorities in the metering field will be seated at roundtables during these breakfast sessions. This will allow the opportunity to communicate directly with one another, and to discuss corresponding issues in an attempt to find solutions to familiar problems. During the session, the session leader will give a presentation, introduce the relevant subject matter and pose a series of scenarios or questions to the audience. Following that, each group is given an allotted time to discuss the issues and to propose solutions. Afterwards, an elected spokesperson from each roundtable will give a short report on his/her group’s debate.

Now in its 9th year, Metering, Billing/CIS America gives participants a unique opportunity to learn, connect, explore and gain the edge in the metering and customer-end technology.

The event will attract approximately 600 industry participants; 100 high-level speakers and 50 exhibitors. The audience includes a cross-section of North American and international electricity, water and gas utilities, who will give strategic and technological insight for advanced/smart metering, AMI, demand response management and customer management for North American utilities.

The Smart sessions are designed specifically for utility professionals to learn from their peers how to approach process improvements, solution integration and vendor partnerships as a means to improve the metering, billing and customer management function, while providing direction for the future. The event also allows for ample opportunities to network and for informal discussion.

2008 sponsors include: San Diego Gas & Electric (host utility), Southern California Edison and Pacific Gas & Electric (participating utilities), ista North America, Echelon, Elster, Oracle, Tenderill, Trilliant, Certicom, MeterSmart, and Sensus, and it will feature an exhibition showcasing the latest technologies on offer.
