Frederiksberg, Denmark --- (METERING.COM) --- May 16, 2012 - The Danish Intelligent Energy Alliance (DIEA) has been established with the aim to help Denmark become among the first countries to ensure an effective conversion of its power system to a smart grid.

The Alliance, an initiative of the Danish Energy Association (DEA), is comprised of energy companies and companies in the energy industry.

The combined solution has already shown the value with a couple of common customers, where the systems have been integrated using a third part middleware software component.

Smart Energy Collective initiates design of five smart grid projects in Netherlands

Arnhem, The Netherlands --- (METERING.COM) --- May 14, 2012 - The twenty-six partners of the Smart Energy Collective have signed a renewed cooperation agreement for the approval of the second phase of its smart grid initiative, which involves the development of five large scale demonstration projects in the Netherlands.

This marks the start of the actual design phase of the five trial test sites. The projects will be implemented at Schiphol airport, in a few offices of ABB and Siemens, and in residential districts in Gorinchem, Heerhugowaard, and Goes.

Brazil’s Light expands smart meter order with Elster

Essen, Germany and Rio de Janeiro, Brazil --- (METERING.COM) --- May 14, 2012 - Brazil’s second largest utility Light S.A. is to install Elster's Garnet and Dracon solutions to expand its advanced metering infrastructure (AMI) system to an additional 80,000 metering endpoints in the city of Rio de Janeiro.

This follows the initial successful deployment of Elster solutions for 20,000 metering endpoints in the city in the first half of 2011, and provides for a total of 100,000 endpoints by the end of 2012.

European architecture model for smart grids developed by Siemens

Oncor smart meters beginning to report outages

In addition, information about potential or emerging problems is also being reported, enabling Oncor to take action before customers are affected. 'What’s my number' increases customer switching in New Zealand

Wellington, New Zealand --- (METERING.COM) --- May 7, 2012 - In the first seven months of the ‘What’s My Number’ campaign there was a 28 percent increase in customer switching in New Zealand, with customers saving an estimated NZ$8.7 million (US$6.9 million).

In the period from June 1 to December 30, 2011, 244,199 customers switched their electricity supplier, compared with 191,337 switches over the same period in 2010.
