The Smart and Sustainable Cities and Communities Coordination Group (SSCC-CG) will liaise with stakeholders, share information and enable cooperation among the relevant technical bodies of CEN and CENELEC. It will also prepare a roadmap and a set of recommendations, including priorities for new standardization activities.
The SSCC-CG is working in close collaboration with ETSI (European Telecommunications Standards Institute), the ISO Technical Committee ‘Sustainable development in communities’ (ISO TC/268), and the EC Directorates-General responsible for Energy, Transport and ICT.
The first meeting of the SSCC-CG took place on June 11, and the next meeting is scheduled for October 16, when the group will start work on a mapping exercise to collect information about relevant standards, and will create a stakeholder platform for interested parties.
The SSCC-CG will also collaborate with the Smart Cities and Communities European Innovation Partnership (EIP-SCC), which was launched by the European Commission in July 2012, and provides financial support to demonstration projects that combine energy, transport and ICT. Standardization was identified as a flagship action to be included in the Partnership’s strategic implementation plan, which will help define how the ‘Smart Cities’ concept can be put into practice.
The secretariat of the SSCC-CG is provided by AFNOR and the chairman is Jean Félix of Syntec Ingénierie.
