More new products and services from CES

Las Vegas, NV, U.S.A. --- (METERING.COM) --- January 11, 2013 - Our (non-exhaustive) round up of new initiatives being launched at CES 2013 continues with a new partnership from Ford Motor Company and another between Cisco and AT&T, among others.

Ford has formed the MyEnergi Lifestyle collaboration with Eaton, SunPower, Whirlpool, Infineon and Nest Labs, among other companies, aimed to demonstrate how households can reduce their electricity bills and CO2 footprint by integrating home appliance technology with a plug-in vehicle to achieve an energy efficient lifestyle. Specifically, MyEnergi Lifestyle showcases how combining renewable energy generation with “time flexible” loads optimizes energy consumption across a plug-in vehicle and home appliances.

Cisco has developed with AT&T a UL certified, all digital, wireless-based home security and automation service, with launch due in March. With AT&T Digital Life, consumers will be able to augment security and manage their home, including managing appliances, lighting and HVAC, and also detecting water leaks, from almost anywhere. Home Plug AV is used to communicate with devices over the in-home power grid, and the controller wirelessly manages an array of connected devices throughout the home by integrating AT&T software with Cisco Z-Wave communications radios.

Another CES related announcement is that Tantalus has joined Alcatel-Lucent’s ngConnect program, a multi-industry ecosystem dedicated to the creation of the new generation connected user experience. Tantalus provides an IP-enabled smart grid gateway to the connected home through TUNet smart meters and devices. As part of the program, Tantalus will build on Alcatel-Lucent’s fiber-to-the-home IP network to provide utilities with realtime smart grid connectivity using a fiber-enabled TUNet® solution. By combining the capabilities of the two networks, utilities will be enabled to adopt advanced applications such as remote disconnect, load management, voltage regulation and smart thermostats.
