Barrigada, Guam --- (METERING.COM) --- February 21, 2013 - Guam Power Authority’s smart meter deployment has reached the half way mark, with nearly 24,000 new advanced digital meters in place in the northern and central part of Guam since the rollout began last October, the company has announced.

The advanced digital meters are part of the Authority’s smart grid initiative to provide upgraded meters that will provide accurate electricity consumption for customers. Funding for the meters is from the Authority’s 2010 Revenue Bonds with a matching Department of Energy grant.

The island-wide rollout was preceded by a 5,000 meter phase 1 deployment in Ypaopao.

“Today, nearly 24,000 residential and small commercial customers have the new smart grid meter technology installed at their home or business,” said stated Joaquin C. Flores, P.E. General Manager.

GPA is continuing to hold its village meetings as part of its island-wide outreach to inform customers about the benefits of the new technology such as providing accurate energy consumption, outage information and outage location as well as voltage quality to customers and GPA.
